Getting to Red Fox Lodge
We are located in the beautiful Suginosawa village at the base of Suginohara Ski Resort. As a family-run lodge, we want your arrival to be smooth and stress-free.
To ensure we can welcome you properly, all lodge transfers must be booked at least 48 hours in advance.
The Red Fox Transfer Service (Arrival & Departure)
We offer a complimentary pickup and drop-off service for guests arriving and departing. To keep our lodge running smoothly, this service operates strictly within the following parameters:
- Pickup Locations:
- Myoko Kogen Station (Local train station)
- Akakura Onsen Bus Stop (For airport snow shuttles)
- Note: We do not offer pickups from Joetsu-Myoko Shinkansen station, Nagano Station, or other hotels/accommodation.
- Operating Hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
- Booking Required: You must email us your arrival time at least 48 hours prior. We cannot accommodate guests who call upon arrival without a transport booking.
A Note on Evening Arrivals: From 6:00 PM onwards, our staff are fully dedicated to serving guests dinner at The Den. Therefore, we cannot operate the shuttle bus during the evening dinner rush.
If you are delayed or arriving after 6:00 PM, please arrange a local taxi to “Red Fox Lodge, Suginosawa.”
How to Get Here
Option 1: By Train (The Scenic Route)
There are two ways to reach our local station, Myoko Kogen Station, where we can pick you up.
- Route A: Via Nagano
- Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano Station.
- Transfer to the local Kita-Shinano Line and travel to Myoko Kogen Station (approx. 45 mins).
- Route B: Via Joetsu-Myoko
- Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Joetsu-Myoko Station.
- Transfer to the local Echigo Tokimeki Railway to Myoko Kogen Station (approx. 30 mins).
The “Last Mile”: Once you arrive at Myoko Kogen Station (and provided it is before 6:00 PM and you have booked), our team will be there to meet you.
Important: We strongly recommend against bringing large ski/snowboard bags on the train. Station platforms are crowded, transfers may involve many stairs, and luggage space on the Shinkansen is strictly limited (and often requires a specific seat reservation). We recommend using a luggage courier service (see below).
We highly recommend using Yamato Transport (Black Cat) to ship your luggage directly from the airport to the lodge if planning to travel via train.
- How it works: Look for the “Yamato / Black Cat” counter in the arrivals hall at Narita or Haneda Airport.
- Cost: Approx. ¥2,500 – ¥3,000 per bag (*weight dependent).
- Timing: Allow 2 days for delivery. If you are spending a night or two in Tokyo before heading to the snow, this is the perfect option.
- Shipping Address: Red Fox Lodge, 1922 Suginosawa, Myoko, Niigata 949-2113, Japan
Option 2: By Airport Snow Shuttle (The Direct Route)
You can book a direct coach from Haneda or Narita Airport to the Akakura Onsen Bus Stop.
- Nagano Snow Shuttle: naganosnowshuttle.com
- Myoko Shuttle: myokoshuttle.com
Standard Drop-off: Most buses drop off at the Akakura Onsen Bus Stop. If you arrive before 6:00 PM, please email us to book your complimentary pickup.
Late Night Arrivals: If you are booking the last Nagano Snow Shuttle of the night, they often drop guests directly at their accommodation. Please check your ticket confirmation.
If your ticket says “Drop off: Akakura Onsen,” and it is after 6:00 PM, you will need to arrange a taxi from Akakura to the lodge.
If your ticket says “Drop off: Red Fox Lodge,” you do not need us to collect you.
Option 3: Self-Drive (Recommended for Flexibility)
We have on-site parking available for guests. Having a car gives you the freedom to explore other resorts and visit Akakura for dinner without relying on taxis or buses.
Getting Around During Your Stay
To the Slopes: We are a short walk from the Suginohara lifts. You won’t need a shuttle to get on the snow!
Visiting Other Resorts (Akakura, Seki Onsen, etc.): Please note that Red Fox Lodge does not operate a shuttle service to other ski resorts. If you wish to ski elsewhere, you have two options:
- Local Bus: The “Mt Myoko Shuttle” connects Suginosawa to Akakura and other resorts.
- View Timetable: myokotourism.com/winter-bus-service
- Warning: This service can be weather-dependent and may be cancelled in heavy snow.
- Self-Drive: We highly recommend renting a car if you plan to ski at multiple resorts during your stay.
Dining & Evening Transport: While we provide transfers for arrival and departure, we do not operate a taxi service for evening dining or excursions.
- If you wish to dine in Akakura Village (approx. 10 mins away), you will need to arrange a local taxi.
- We highly recommend enjoying dinner at our on-site restaurant, The Den, or exploring the local restaurants in Suginosawa village which are within walking distance.
